Julie Nye
Although a self-taught portrait artist for many years, I could no longer suppress the desire to paint the passion and expression of the human form in music and dance. In 2007 having completed a series of paintings of jazz musicians, I was appointed the official jazz portrait artist for the Ventnor Jazz divas festival on the Isle of Wight.
Whilst working in all mediums, especially pastels for my commission work, there is nothing more exciting than the vibrant richness and depth of colour achieved with oils giving a lovely luminous quality to skin tones, yet a thick creamy quality to surroundings and fabrics alike.
My paintings have been described as vibrant, expressive and impressionistic and are in great demand by pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels and corporate offices across the country. They are available stretched and framed as limited edition fine art prints on paper and canvas. The editions are in numbers of 195 and are printed to a very high standard.
I have recently had a studio built in West End, on the outskirts of Southampton, Hampshire and I am currently working on a series of burlesque paintings in oil on linen canvas which are expected to be ready in the Autumn.
